Fantasia Barrino is one of the best singers discovered during the American Idol auditions. She didn’t failed to impress from the first time she made an appearance and she was a favorite during the whole show. She auditioned with an impressive rendition of Proud Mary which made all the judges want to hear more from her. In the video bellow you can see her first audition that took place in Atlanta, the reaction of those who listened her and her reaction at the news that she is going to Hollywood.

She successfully won that edition of American Idol, the third, so she had the chance to work with the best producers. Fantasia Barrino is an American R&B singer. She rose to fame as the winner of the third season of the reality show American Idol in 2004. Following her victory, she released her debut single I Believe, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

When she went to the American Idol audition, she sang Fugees’ Killing me Softly and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Proud Mary. Thus, she was an early favourite in the competition. Here is Fantasia’s audition for American Idol.

Her standout performance during the course of the show was a heartfelt staging of the Porgy and Bess standard Summertime that left her in tears from really feeling the song and earned praise from the judges.

Randy Jackson called it the best performance in the history of the show. That particular segment of the show was named amongst AOL’s 2004 list of greatest television moments. Watch for yourself in the video below.

For the final performance on American Idol, she offered a second performance of Summertime that again drew praises from the judges. Simon Cowell was mind blown stated that she was the best contestant to ever compete in any competition, since the show’s first global airings.

On the finale, over 65 million votes were cast in order to determine the winner on May 26, 2004, up from 24 million in 2003. It was the highest finale vote in the show’s history until the 2007 season-six finale. Fantasia was the youngest American Idol winner until 2007, when Jordin Sparks won the title.

Her single Bitersweet, peaked in the top ten on the R&B chart. The single won her a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. As of February 2012, Barrino has sold 2.842.000 albums and 1.425.000 tracks in the USA.

Fantasia Barrino is an American R&B singer and actress, born June 30, 1984, being known as Fantasia. She became famous after she won the third season of the reality show American Idol in 2004. Her first released single was called I Believe and was number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Soon, Fantasia, released her first music album entitled Free Yourself, which was certified Platinum by the RIAA and it also garnered three Grammy nominations. Later, she released her second album, Fantasia, which included the single When I See You. The song soon topped the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for eight weeks, which was a great achievement and that was also the moment when she became appreciated indeed as a very talented artist.This second album was certified Gold by the RIAA and received three Grammy nominations. Nonetheless, it seems that her career took a different approach, Fantasia being also attracted to theatre, so she played the part of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple and she won a 2007 Theatre World Award.

The singer as born in High Point, North Carolina. Fantasia suffered a lot when she was raped by a classmate, so she dropped out of school, became pregnant at 16 and in 2001, she gave birth to her daughter, Zion Quari Barrino. Later, she moved to neighbouring Greensboro, North Carolina and soon after this event, she auditioned for the American Idol show. Between 2008-2010, she worked on an album and in 2010 she released it, being entitled Back To Me and she appeared in many shows and collaborated with a lot of artists and producers, so her career developed gradually, but very well.

Fantasia Barrino was cast in her first role, portraying gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in a biopic based on the book Got To Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel, but unfortunately, she lost her role as she announced her pregnancy. Related to her personal life, in 2005, Fantasia Barrino published a memoir, entitled Life Is Not A Fairy Tale and soon after its launching, it became a New York Times best-seller. Despite the success of this book, she was sued by her father after she said unflattering things about him in her book. Fantasia Monique Barrino commonly known simply as Fantasia, is an American R&B singer and actress, who rose the fame as the winner of the third season of he reality show American Idol, in 2004. She released her debut single I Believe, which debuted at number on the Billboard Hot 100. Fantasia Barrino was an early favorite in the competition, due to her impeccable rendition of Tina Turner’s Proud May. Her interpretation was one of the most impressive in the history of the show. Since the American Idol chapter has ended her career went on an upward scale and was crowned with success. 

In terms of her personal life Barrino published a memoir, dictated to a freelance writer, titled Life is Not a Fairytale. The book became a New York Times best seller, reaching number seven on the list. In it, she revealed that she is functionally illiterate and was thus unable to read the text of contracts she signed or to read to her then four year old daughter. In 2006, following the release of her autobiography, Barrino’s father sued her for $10 million after she said unflattering things about him in the book that he claimed were false. Lately, things have not been great for Fantasia. In March, she gave birth to a baby, with boyfriend Antwaun Cook, but one of the online tabloids has exclusively learned the father is having second thoughts and is actively pursuing his estranged wife, Paula Cook. According to a family insider, Antwaun regrets giving up on Paula and their two children and while Paula is very hurt by what he did to their family, she is not staying away from him either. 

Fantasia is having a tough time right now, because she does not want to reveal the name of the father. Even so, she has been linked on and off to Cook who has been separated from his wife. What many people do not know is that the winner of the third season of American Idol even attempted suicide in August 2010, after Paula Cook named her in an alienation of affection lawsuit calling her a home wrecker. In November of the same year, Fantasia testified in family court about her relationship with Cook, and in August she announced she was pregnant delivering the news to a concert audience while she was onstage. Fantasia Barrino decided not to give the newborn son the last name of his father.

Fantasia Barrino was born in June, 1984, in High Point, North Carolina. The star has actually always been a writer, in 2005 publishing her first book. Life Is Not a Fairy Tale is a memoir book so much appreciated that it became a New York Times best seller. The autobiography of Fantasia Barrino has managed to cause quite a huge public scandal. So, the singer’s father decided to sue his daughter, for defamation. He claimed that much of the story Fantasia Barrino shared in her book regarding her relationship with him was untrue. He asked the sum of $10 million in damage. However, the allegations over untrue claims regarding her father is not the only scandal that Fantasia Barrino had to face. In 2010 it was discovered that the singer has been involved in a long time relationship with a married man, Antwaun Cook. Fantasia Barrino was actually sued by Cook’s ex-wife, who claimed that the star pursued a relationship with her husband, although she knew about the marriage. In August 2010, Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized. So, a new scandal was to affect the singer’s public image. It was claimed that she took an aspirin overdose to help her sleep. It seems that the star was exhausted and was unable to rest, so she turned to the help of pills. The whole event was considered to be an attempt of suicide. Fantasia Barrino herself declared that she was able to survive the incident only due to her love and passion for music. Music saved her, as the star declared back then. However, scandals did not stopped here. In August 2011, the singer announced to be pregnant, but refused to confirm Cook as the father of her child.

Fantasia Barrino released her debut album after she won the installment of the American Idol show, in which she was named as one of the Three Divas, with Jennifer Houdson and LaToya London. The album Free Yourself  was released in November 2004. It was the first milestone conquered immediately after winning the show, which proved that Fantasia Barrino was an artist here to stay. Free Yourself  was released under the L Label, by producers Louis Biancaniello, Craig Brookman, Bryan-Michael Cox and many others. Their professional contribution was aimed at instructing Fantasia Barrino into developing a great album, with perfect recordings and amazing songs. The general style of the album is R&B, with a touch of soul inflections. Although she has entered the entertainment industry several years ago, due to her amazing voice and great talent, Fantasia Barrino has already managed to gather numerous nominations and awards. After being on American Idol, the music career launching television show, Fantasia Barrino released three albums: Free Youself (2004), Fantasia (2006) and Back to Me (2010). Even though Fantasia Barrino just started her journey in the music industry, she gathered a long list of nominations from all the most important award shows.

Right form her first interpretations, Fantasia Barrino got several awards for the song I Believe. In 2004, she won the Top Selling Single of the Year and the Top Selling R&B / Hip-Hop Single of the Year, at the Billboard Music Awards. The following year, many nominations came her way, but Fantasia Barrino only received two trophies, one for Outstanding Female Artist, at the NAACP Image Awards and the Top R&B / Hip-Hop Single, at the Billboard American Urban Radio Networks.
